Junior Membership

Our Junior Membership program is designed to accommodate students who aspire to become dance teachers and future DMA members.

Some of the many benefits of being a Junior Member:

  • Junior members are permitted at all DMA Grand Body Meetings, although they do not have a vote or voice.
  • Junior members receive a $5 discount on workshops
  • may obtain syllabi to become a member
  • will have the chance to teach/choreograph/perform at our conventions

How to Become a Junior Member:

  • Must be between the ages of 13 and 19,
  • Must have been dancing for a minimum of three years
  • Must be currently studying under a DMA member (of good standing)

Students will be required to fill out an interest application, be nominated by a DMA member, write an essay on why they would like to become a junior member, and what they wish to gain from the program, and submit a resume. Junior members must attend a minimum of 1 meeting and pay the annual dues of $30 to the local chapter

Avery Edwards

avery-teen-missAvery is the daughter of Lisa & Mike Rexroat and Jill & Eric Edwards. She is a proud student of the Gretchen Greene School of Dance in Savannah, GA where she has studied with Trina Stafford for 12 years. She has been honored by Dance Troupe Inc. as a Youth Dance Ambassador where she also won scholarships for tap, jazz, and ballet. She has received the award for Best Interview at the DMA Solo-Title Competition for the past 3 years.

In 2009, She was recognized for Oustanding Stage Presence at the New York City Dance Alliance and has danced in their closing performance as a Showcase Dancer. Even while dancing three to four days a week, she maintains her “A” average and even finds time to be on her High School’s cheerleading team.

Hanna Piper

hanna-jr-missHanna is the daughter of Dawn & Alan Piper. She is currently under the the instruction of Trina Stafford at the Gretchen Greene School of Dance in Savannah, GA, where she has studied tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, and acrobatics for ten years. She is now in the 6th grade and has been on High Honor Roll ever since kindergarten.

Hanna loves to perform and was recently recognized for Outstanding Showmanship at the NYCDA convention she attended this past winter; she also received a ballet scholarship at the same convention. At Dance Troupe Interantional’s Savannah Competition she was selected to be a Youth Dance Ambassador. At DMA’s Fall Solo-Title Competition, Hanna received overall awards in Jazz, Tap, Ballet and Interview. She’s excitedly looking forward to attending the DMA National Competition held in Washington, D.C. this summer.

Hanna says: “Dance is my life!”

Shelby Arnold

Shelby ArnoldShelby is the daughter of Amanda and Buddy Arnold, and has one sister: Taylor. She attends elementary in Ladson, SC and is in the Eagle Program for the gifted and talented. She has been dancing for four years at Planet Dance.

She also enjoys reading, playing golf, and just “hanging out with her friends.” She is currently performing a musical theatre piece to “I’m A Blonde.”
